Governor George Wallace in 1972, will be released from a Maryland
prison this year.
His release was first reported by the Press-Register in Mobile,
Alabama.
Bremer, who turned 57 this week, is currently scheduled for
release on December 16th from the Maryland Correctional
Institute-Hagerstown.
A prison official said that date likely will be moved up as
Bremer continues to accumulate credits for good behavior and for
working as a clerk at the prison.
Bremer was sentenced to 53 years in prison for shooting Wallace
and three bystanders at a presidential campaign stop in Laurel on
May 15th, 1972. He has served 35 years of that sentence.
A bullet lodged in Wallace's spine, leaving his legs paralyzed,
and he was forced to abandon his presidential bid. But he was
elected to two more terms as Alabama's governor.
Wallace died in 1998.
