U.S. Senator Trent Lott is stepping down after more than 30 years in office. Lott made the announcement in his hometown of Pascagoula earlier today. He was greeted with a standing ovation. Lott says it's been a great honor and privilege to serve the people of Mississippi, but he says it's time to do something else,"we've had this great experience for these 35 years, but, we do think that there is time left for us to maybe do something else. We had 30 members of our family for Thanksgiving dinner, children, grandchildren, cousins, and aunts and uncles, and I just realized once again, you know, I missed a lot of those opportunities to spend extra time with family and we'd like to have a little more time to do that too," said U.S. Senator Trent Lott, (R)-Mississippi. Lott says his retirement is not effective today, but will be by the end of the year.
