MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama is going to use federal funds to pay state troopers to work overtime on the state's deadliest roads. The crackdown was announced yesterday by Governor Riley.

A two-year agreement between the Alabama Department of Transportation and the state Department of Public Safety calls for the Transportation Department to supply more than $5 million in federal highway safety funds. That will be used for extra patrols in areas with the greatest number of wrecks.

The CARE Research and Development Laboratory at the University of Alabama will determine where the problem areas are that need extra patrols.

I agree asda. I work for a major towing company in Mobile and know that troopers duties also include being a DOT officer. They need to seperate the two.

Why are they over working the troopers we already have?  I think it would be a better idea to use that money to hire new Troopers so that the problem would be fixed for a longer time period.  The last numbers I saw we were actually short State Troopers.
