JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Governor Haley Barbour said today (Monday)the special election to select for a successor to Senator Trent
Lott will be held November 4th 2008 - the same date as the general
election for congressional seats.
In a statement, Barbour said he would not be a candidate himself
and would look "to appoint the best qualified person who can do
the most for our state and country."
He said he would make an interim appointment within 10 days of
Lott's resignation taking effect.
There are four years remaining on Lott's term to which he was
elected in 2006.
Lott announced today in Pascagoula that he will leave
the Senate before the end of the year.
