Jeff Rogers, a spokesperson for Gulf Power, says power has been restored to everyone in the Avalon Boulevard area of Santa Rosa County. Power was out for about two hours.

Severe weather pounded the Florida Panhandle damaging at least seven homes. Two families are homeless and hundreds of people without power.

Sonya Daniels with Escambia County's Emergency Management Agency says the storms badly damaged two homes in the 100 block of Century Boulevard. That's in an unincorporated area between McDavid and Century. Both families are homeless. The Red Cross is trying to help them find a place to stay for the night. Six other homes in the same area suffered minor damage.

Santa Rosa County is reporting downed power lines, downed trees and structural damage to a barn near Highway 179 and Penton Road.

Gulf Power Company is working to restore power to about 1,000 homes in the Avalon Boulevard area of Santa Rosa County.

During the storms, several 100 homes in the Bayou Chico area outside Pensacola lost power for a short time.

I’m all in favor of underground power lines ,but for the power company it means a lot more upkeep and money.We have a few communities with all underground utilities but not as many as we should have. I believe Spanish Trace in Saraland is one of them.It really looks nice without the power poles and lines running overhead.
