Despite problems with heat in Escambia County, Florida, school system officials in Mobile say they have no plans to cancel any outdoor activities because of hot weather.Murphy High School's football team scheduled a practice for Thursday afternoon, but it was cut short because of lightning, not because of heat.
Still, team officials say they have been taking special precautions to keep the players safe.
Head Coach Ron Lee said, "They know that they get water any time they need it. They don't have to wait for anyone to tell them. After every eight minutes, we give them a two minute water break and we continue that anywhere from a 90 to a 120 minute practice."
Team officials say they went through 150 gallons of water Wednesday.
They say on a normal day, they go through fifty to a hundred gallons.
