MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman and former HealthSouth C-E-O Richard Scrushy have been taken to the federal prison in Atlanta to begin serving prison sentences. Siegelman's attorney, David McDonald, says the two men were driven by federal marshals to Atlanta Thursday night after being ordered into custody by U-S District Judge Mark Fuller. Fuller had just sentenced Siegelman to more than seven years in prison and Scrushy to almost seven years.

McDonald says Siegelman and Scrushy are being evaluated at the Atlanta prison and will be assigned later to a facility to serve their sentences. McDonald says attorneys filed notice today that they plan to appeal the convictions of Siegelman and Scrushy on bribery and related charges in a government corruption case. He says next week they will file an emergency appeal with the 11th U-S Circuit Court of Appeals asking that they be allowed to be free while their case is appealed.
