TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (AP) - The so-called "D.C. Madam"apologized to her mother and sister in suicide notes that said she
couldn't bear going to prison.
Police on Monday released the two notes Deborah Jean Palfrey
wrote before she hanged herself in a shed outside her mother's
mobile home in the Florida Gulf Coast community of Tarpon Springs
four days ago.
The 52 year old faced federal prison time after being convicted
last month of running a prostitution service that catered to
members of Washington's political elite.
She said in a note to her mother that the case was a "modern
day lynching." She says she didn't want to come out of prison
"broken, penniless and very much alone."
The medical examiner has officially ruled her death a suicide. A
toxicology report is pending.
