Many people are waiting for their check to come in the mail, but it might take a little bit longer than you're expecting and there's a reason why. Why Haven’t I Gotten My Tax Rebate Check?

Many people are waiting to get their economic stimulus check in mail. But some people who are expecting a direct deposit may actually be getting a paper check. Here's a quick question and answer from the Internal Revenue Service to help explain:

Q. I chose direct deposit for my 2007 tax refund but also requested my electronic filing and/or tax preparation fees be deducted from my refund. How does that affect my stimulus payment?

A. If you requested that your electronic filing and/or tax preparation fee be deducted from the amount of your refund, you have entered into a financial agreement with the electronic filing provider or tax preparation provider, which is essentially equivalent to a refund anticipation loan (RAL). The money that was deposited into your bank account came from the financial institution associated with your electronic filing provider or tax preparation provider, not from the IRS. Taxpayers who use RALs or enter into any other loan or financial agreement with their tax professional cannot receive their stimulus payments by direct deposit and instead will get a paper check.

There's a wealth of information on our website. You can click on the related stories provided here or just type the keyword "rebate" in the search window at the top of the wkrg.com homepage.

FYI: If you filed turbo tax and paid then, you should receive it electronic. I filed that way as well and have my checked was deposited.

So what if you complete your taxes on Turbo Tax and file electronically? This is so confusing and there always seems to be a glitch......

Q. Will the payment I receive in 2008 reduce my 2008 refund or increase the amount I owe for 2008?

A. No, the stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return.

If you think that is a surprise… wait until you find out that this little bit of ‘free money’ everybody thinks they are getting is actually more like a ‘pay day loan’ that your getting on your 2008 tax returns.

This is the first time I have seen this info. I was under the impression I would recieve a deposit this morning. There goes gas money for next week. I wish I had seen that info about the processing fee earlier. I gues it will be June when/if we receive anything. This really improves my trust in our government.

Why is this the only place that has this information.  Even the irs web site has failed to inform people of this little glitch
