BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - The Navy will start live-fire combatexercises today (Tuesday) on a new riverine training range at the
John C. Stennis Space Center in south Mississippi.
Captain Evin H. Thompson is commander of Naval Special Warfare
Group 4. He says the sections of Mike's River and the Pearl River
allow for realistic training.
Thompson says the shallow waterways and heavy vegetation provide
conditions similar to those where Special Operations Forces might
have to conduct real combat operations.
The 3,500-acre range is managed and operated by Special Boat
Team 22, the only command in the Department of Defense specifically
designated to conduct special operations in riverine environments.
