Some Senior Citizens in the City of Prichard say they can longer afford water because of rate increases. They took their fight to the Water Works Board meeting Monday evening.
Dozens of people packed the small room to let their concerns be heard.
The group's spokesperson is Severia Morris.
She says people on fixed incomes are paying at least $75 a month for water service and they need relief soon.
In November 2007, Prichard increase the water rate by 15%. According to Morris, another 15% increase is set to go in effect next month. She says customers were notified on the back of their water bills.
Severia Morris says they understand repairs are needed and cost money, but she customers can no longer afford to take on all of the burden. She says the government needs to do something now.
