Anita Miracle says the waterfront atmosphere on Dauphin Island was the ideal setting for the Oarhouse Restaurant.
"It's a peaceful island, I think that's the biggest draw of all,"Said Miracle. Business on the island relies on folks who are looking to get away, without having to deal with crowds."This was a nice drive out, not very much traffic and the beach is nice and soft and pretty,"Said one beachgoer.
With a special ribbon cutting ceremony island leaders hope a new stretch of beach will stimulate their economy. "This is a way that we can help attract to the island that will hopefully spill off and help support our local businesses and help generate some additional tax revenues,"Said Mayor Jeff Collier. But if you come out to the beach be prepared to shell out twenty dollars for parking. While officials say that money will help pay for lifeguards, some don't mind having to dig deeper in their pockets. "Families should feel safer with that and I think it's probably a good idea in the long run, we need to be more conscious of safety as a community as well as individuals,"Said Valerie Andrews.
Officials say it took just under two million dollars to develop the new beach.Town leaders will host a sand sculpture workshop and contest to kickoff tomorrow's opening. Festivities begin at 10am.

That is if they can insure it. Oh yeah, hurricanes are an act of God and not insurable anymore, right?

I guess they could claim eroding assets on the beach part after a hurricane.grin

I think I would get a little more than flack-they would want to tax me at the 99th percentile and then claim ownership of the idea, all so they could make a buck to pay for the island that washes away. Besides, since I am not a resident, I may not be “welcomed” to start a business-lol.

YES mam-a-ree patent that Idea RMSEEK1234! A beach day care. You might get a little flack from the Dauphin Island Authority but I figure they’ll be too busy chasing all those kids that get dropped off to give you to much trouble.  grin

So has anyone been?

$20.00 is twice the amount that it should me

I wasn’t exactly talking about dumping my kids-but then again, I guess everyone could use some free time now and again-just kidding. Maybe I should patent this idea, huh?

I never thought of it like that! Now it sounds like a real bargain. Go pay your $20 and dump off a car load of kids for the day and let the life guard watch them while you take the day off. I bet they’re gonna have more business than they can handle once the idea gets around. Can I tell them RMSEEK1234 referred me to them. grin

Can I just pay the lifeguard $20 to watch my family?

I for one am not paying 20 bucks to go to that beach.  Its free parking for me!
