EUFAULA, Ala. (AP) - A near month-long investigation resulted inthe arrest of a 26-year-old Eufaula man on a first-degree assault
charge for injuring an eight-week-old infant.
The assault occurred April 7th.
Barbour County Sheriff's investigators allege that William Edd
Walker Junior violently shook the baby, leaving him blinded and
likely mentally impaired. Doctors at Children's Hospital also said
the infant could suffer paralysis.
Sheriff's Sgt. David Morris said it was determined Walker became
irritated and shook the baby because he would not stop crying.
Walker is the boyfriend of the child's mother, but is not the
child's biological father. He was placed in the Barbour County Jail
on $50,000 bond.
Authorities said the baby was placed in foster care.
