While we prepare to honor our fallen servicemen and women on Memorial Day, you will have an opportunity to help other men and women who sacrificed so much for our country.
In January, News Five introduced you to Sgt. Greg Edwards.
In 2006 his legs were amputated after he stepped on a roadside bomb in Iraq.
An organization called homes for our troops broke ground on a new home for Sgt. Edwards.
Friday we checked on the progress and the house is almost completed.
Edwards is the first wounded vet in Alabama to receive a home from the organization but there are plenty more on a waiting a list.
"The men and women we're building for the bulk of them have two and three limb amputees. Some quadraplegic, some paraplegic, just really some of the most severe injuries that you can imagine. We just figure those guys have enough medical issues to deal with the rest of their lives. So if homes for our troops can step in and improve their quality of life from here on out then god bless them," said Homes For Our Troops spokesperson Larry Gill.
On May 24th you can help the Homes For Our Troops organization provide homes for wounded vets here in Alabama and across the nation.
A Memorial car show will be held in the Winn Dixie parking lot at the corner of Airport Boulevard and Snow Road in Mobile.
It will be held from 8:00 am until 12:30 pm.
Registration is $20.
