Johnny Cahoon knew something was wrong when his dog, Bama, woke him up out of a deep sleep early Wednesday morning.
"He was barking loud and was very upset," says Cahoon. "I looked outside and saw two men on my deck and running towards the river."
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office says the men were trying to steal boats and other property from homes along the Fish River. But the "boat bandits"
were in for quite a surprise.
"I grabbed my gun and fired warning shots at them," says Cahoon. "And they hopped in their own boat and tried to get away. But then they jumped out of their boat and started swimming across the river."
The boat bandits got away but they weren't able to make off with any stolen property. Sheriff's investigators are trying to track the men down.
"The next time they try this it'll be worse," says Cahoon.
