Mobile Fire Department officials say a candle left burning unattended is to blame for an early morning house fire in Mobile. It happened around 2:30am on St. Madar Street in the Toulmanville community. Firefighters say flames were visible from the house when they arrived on scene. Samuel Powe and Vera Henry were at the house at the time of the fire and escaped without injury. They told investigators they had no utilities and were using the candle as light. The fire damage is estimated at $21 thousand dollars.

$21,000 worth of damage to a Toulmanville house? I didn’t know there were properties worth that in that area, much less HOUSES worth that!
