AUBURN, Ala. (AP) - Auburn University will hold a campus-widememorial service Monday afternoon to honor freshman Lauren Burk.
The gathering will include school President Jay Gogue and the
president of Burk's Delta Gamma sorority, Alison Penuel.
Phenix City police arrested 23-year-old Courtney Lockhart on Friday and charged him with murder in Burk's death. He also is
charged with kidnapping, robbery and attempted rape, although
authorities say Burk was NOT sexually assaulted.
The 18-year-old Burk was a freshman at Auburn and a graduate of
Marietta's Walton High School.
She was found Tuesday night on the side of a road about five
miles from campus, suffering from a gunshot wound. She died later
at a hospital.
Her 2001 Honda Civic was found that night burning in a campus
parking lot.
Burk's funeral was held yesterday in Marietta, Georgia, where
her family lives.
A campus-wide memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. at
Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.
