MACHIAS, Maine (AP) - Hurricane Kyle didn't pack much of a punchin Maine, despite earlier fears.
Fishermen moved boats to shelter along Maine's rugged eastern
coast Sunday as Kyle spun past on its way to Canada. It delivered a
glancing blow equivalent to a classic nor'easter without the snow.
One emergency official called Kyle "a run-of-the-mill storm."
It produced winds hard enough to jiggle road signs, cause scattered
power outages and rip early-autumn leaves from trees. Kyle also
lashed the Maine coast with a third straight day of heavy rain.
There were no evacuations, but more than 500 customers lost
power. Flood watches remain in effect for the Down East coast.
Kyle made landfall Sunday night in southern Nova Scotia as a
weak hurricane but has been downgraded to a tropical storm. Some
12,000 power outages are reported in the province.
