The Fiesta Barbershop Chorus turns 50 this year! And if you live in Pensacola you've probably heard either the chorus itself or some of the quartets formed by chorus members...they've logged a lot of public performances over those five decades. The two dozen members of the Chorus sing the four-part barbershop harmony with, as one member describes, ringing chords...especially to finish the song. Clearly the singers love their music.Member Robert Romaine says, "I'm 87...I think it's great. It's good for your health for one thing."
Newly Retired Marine Frank Troxel tells what he likes, "Camaraderie...being able to harmonize with four guys is a treat you really can't do any place else."
Bass singer John Stewart declares, "This is the greatest hobby in the world. You don't have to have any instruments. You don't have to anything except a desire to sing...and you just love to hear those chords ring."
Dale Bragan sums it up: "You're singing...how can you not be smiling."
The 50th Anniversary Show of the Fiesta Barbershop Chorus is Saturday, May 3rd at the UWF Center for the Fine and Performing Arts. General Admission is $15, but there are discounts for seniors and children. For ticket information, call (850) 587-4087
