A ceremony is planned today at NAS Pensacola to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.  The Japanese attack on December 7th, 1941 prompted the U.S. declaration of war on Japan.

The ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the National Naval Aviation Museum. The public is invited to attend.

President Trump is also expected to sign a proclamation this afternoon for National Pearl Harbor Day.

More than 24 hundred sailors, soldiers, and civilians were killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor.  More than a thousand others were wounded. Almost twenty ships, including 8 battleships were destroyed.

Following the attack, in a joint session of Congress, President Franklin Roosevelt proclaimed it “a day which will live in infamy.”
