SUMMERDALE, Ala. (WKRG) –The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office is assisting the Summerdale Police in searching for a suspect who allegedly backed his truck on top of a Summerdale police cruiser.
Summerdale Chief of Police says the officer was stepping out of the vehicle as the suspect backed his white truck on top of it.
The officer was not injured.
It started when the unidentified officer ran the truck’s plates which came back to a different vehicle, implying it may be a stolen license plate.
This was around 6pm on George Younce Rd and County Rd 28.
According to police, upon stopping the car, the female passenger and male driver were cooperative. They gave their names to the officer who went back to his cruiser to run their information.
That’s when the officer went back to his car, checked their names, then as he was getting out of his car, the driver allegedly backed his white Chevy pickup truck on top of the cruiser, police say.
The man then got out of the truck and fled on foot off George Younce Rd in Summerdale towards County Rd 24. Police say that’s where he was last seen.
According to police, the female passenger is not facing any charges and willingly went to the sheriff’s department for questioning for the investigation.
Investigators say they believe they know who he is but are waiting to release his identity.
The manhunt was called off before 8pm and the white male suspect remains on the run.
