BAYOU LA BATRE, Alabama (WKRG) — The Coast Guard confirms a vehicle was driven off the Bayou La Batre Bridge.
According to the Coast Guard, the initial report of the incident came across around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. When the Coast Guard arrived, all passengers had been rescued by Bayou la Batre police, but injuries are unknown at this time.
An Alabama Department of Transportation worker told News 5 Photojournalist Ryan Lothspeich there was a technical malfunction with the computer. The computer failed to signal the flashing light and barrier so drivers knew not to cross, because the draw bridge was up.
The Coast Guard is on the scene working to retrieve the vehicle from the water.
