One Woman Dead after Fatal House Fire

Officials on the scene have confirmed there was one fatality, with nobody else killed or injured.

The victim is a woman between 64-65-years old and she lived at 1550 Hillandale Drive.  Officials believe the woman was killed as a result of the fire.  Three dogs and one cat that also lived at the home did not survive.  Another person in the home escaped through a rear bathroom window unharmed according to MFRD spokesman Steve Huffman.

The victim’s name has not been released at this time, nor has the cause of this fire.  The fire was reported at approximately 6:19 am and is believed to have started in the carport. MFRD had a very large presence on the street early this morning.

“We called a second alarm because we thought we had 2-3 fatalities, additional units were requested,” said MFRD Spokesman Steve Huffman.  Neighbors gathered outside to see the commotion.

“It’s a shock, it’s really a shock,” said a friend of the victim Lynda Steinackle.  “She was a good person, loved to shop, made blankets, loved her grandchildren.”  The cause is still under investigation. This isn’t the first time a fire has destroyed a home in Mobile’s Crestvieww subdivision. Just a half mile away in the same subivision a family lost their home shortly before Halloween.
The Liles family was burned out of their home following a fire. No one was hurt but the family lost their home and everything they owned.
