Coast Guard Suspends Search for Possible Missing Person

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (WKRG)  – The Coast Guard has suspended a search for a person believed to be missing near Buras, Louisiana.

Around 4:20 a.m. Saturday Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report of a 30-foot shrimp vessel on fire in Long Bay near Buras, Louisiana. According to a press release from the Coast Guard, “It was reported that the vessel later sank in approximately 4-feet of water one mile from Joshua Marina. A portion of the super structure is visible above water.”

The Coast Guard is not sure if a person was aboard the boat when it sank. Plaquemine Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Coast Guard searched a 5 and a half mile radius for 8 hours before suspending the search at 5:47 p.m.
