THEODORE, Ala. (WKRG) — A Theodore man faces charges of sexually abusing a child after a grand jury returned an indictment.
Larry Self turned himself into authorities Thursday.
Prosecutors say the victim is a boy under the age of 12 and is related to Self.
Assistant District Attorney Nicki Patterson says the abuse happened sometime between January and April of 2016, but wasn’t reported until months later.
“This was a young child and what is so typical for children is they don’t know what to do with this information. They don’t know who to tell. They don’t know how to describe what happened and so this took a while,” said Patterson. “The child, as they typically do, told someone at school.”
Patterson describes the abuse as physical touching of the victim’s private area and believes it was an isolated incident.
Self has bonded out of jail.
