MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — This is called the giving season, and a local church is giving 100 percent of the proceeds from its Christmas tree lots to charity. Pathway Church is located on Moffett Road. They started the “Buy a Tree, Change a Life” program several years ago. All the money raised from the trees goes to children, both locally and globally. Last year, the church raised $27,000 for charity. Pastor Travis Johnson started the program six years ago. It has now grown to fourteen states.
Johnson says, “That might be my favorite thing about “Buy a tree, Change a Life.” So many people in the community come together to do something. Once you hear what the Christmas trees do, why wouldn’t you want to be a part of that?”
News 5 was there when the Posey family was picking out a tree. This is the third tree they have purchased through “Buy a Tree, Change a Life.” Brandy Posey says, “This is an amazing way to give back globally and locally. It is just something my family and I wanted to do.”
If you would like to purchase a tree, Pathway Church is located at 7200 Moffett Road. They are also selling trees at a lot on Airport Boulevard near Baker High School.
All the trees are Grade “A” North Carolina firs. Part of the local funds go to the Semmes Boys and Girls Club, and Aubreigh’s Army. The international funds go to help sustain orphanages in Cambodia and Guatemala.
