Missing Mentally Challenged Man Found Dead in Destin Pond

DESTIN, Fla. (WKRG) — A man found dead in a retention pond in Okaloosa County has been identified as a missing mentally challenged man from Laurel Hill, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

A resident at an apartment complex in the 4200 block of Commons Drive saw the body in a pond behind the complex around 7:00 a.m Friday.

Adam Vaughn had been reported missing by a caretaker at his group home around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. The caretaker told the sheriff’s office that Vaughn had gone to a restroom at Morgan’s Sports Complex but never returned. The caretaker said Vaughn did not know his address and was unable to drive or read.

The complex is located about a mile from where Vaughn’s body was discovered.

Investigators did not find any signs of foul play, according to the sheriff’s office.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
