Mobile, AL (WKRG)
One of the of most well-known members of the Mobile Fire-Rescue Department is moving on. Steve Huffman has been the public information officer for MFRD for more than a decade. He announced his retirement via e-mail this morning after 32 years with the department. Huffman’s one of the first people we call at News 5 anything is happening with a fire or natural disaster in Mobile.
Huffman’s been the public information officer at MFRD since 1990. Normally, the title of PIO sees a lot of turnovers. He was a firefighter before that.
“The book is not finished yet and I look forward to starting the next chapter,” said Huffman in his e-mail. “I won’t say that I plan to completely disappear from the camera; we’ll see what develops.” Huffman added he had intended to retire at some point and wanted to explore some new opportunities at this time. He says his last day is December 13th but he officially retires on New Year’s Day.
