MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A 4-year-old boy was recovering at USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital Monday after a shooting in Prichard that also claimed the life of his father.
Dortez Major Jr. has a cast on his right leg, where he was shot twice. News 5 spoke with his mother, Raven Crandle, who said she hopes her son will be able to leave the hospital later Monday.
Crandle posted multiple photos on Facebook of her son in the hospital. One had a caption that said he woke up crying all night.
The shooting happened Sunday at Thomas and Magee Streets in Prichard. The victims were discovered in a car not far away at the corner of Barretts Lane and Summerville Street in Mobile.
Police identified the man who died as the boy’s father, Dortez Major Sr.
Major and his son were in a car with Major’s girlfriend and another child when the shooting occurred. The girlfriend was wounded. The other child was unharmed.
Prichard Police said the shooting stemmed from a previous incident on Friday at a night club in Mobile.
Police have identified 20-year-old Christopher Johnson as a person of interest.
