Fake Social Media Stories Meant to Confuse

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – On the heels of News 5’s viral story about an Alabama pastor receiving a voice mail message looking for dirt on U.S. Senate Candidate Roy Moore, social media is seeing a run of fake news stories.

The fakes are easy to spot.

Republican Roy Moore is facing accusations from at least 8 women that he engaged in various levels of sexual misconduct with them when they were teens and he was in his 30’s.  The incidents included an accusation of sexual assault by one woman, Beverly Young Nelson, and another allegation of sexual abuse by Leigh Corfman when she was 14 years-old.

One fake story claims one of the accusers named Helen Spindlesmith ‘Goes Down in Flames.’  She claims to have refuted her accusation of sexual abuse for which she said she was paid $100k.  Of course, none of the women accusers has that name.

Another story shows a picture of British actress Charlotte Crosby and claims in a headline that “Roy Moore’s ‘Lying Accuser’ Admits He Didn’t Ever Touch Her.  This story named the accuser ‘Harley Hannah, also clearly not one of the women who has made accusations against Moore.

We contacted the Moore campaign for comment but have not yet heard back.
