An off-duty firefighter with Mobile Fire-Rescue helped a driver who drove his car into Mobile Bay on Tuesday afternoon.
Spanish Fort Police say the driver was traveling at a high-rate of speed on the Causeway (U.S. Highway 98) when he drove off the roadway and into the bay, partially submerging the vehicle. The car narrowly missed a fisherman and his two children.
The driver, who has not been identified, suffered serious injuries and was life-flighted to a nearby hospital. The man might have had a “medical episode” at the wheel, police tell News 5.
Jonathan Lyles, a fireman with Mobile Fire-Rescue, rushed into the water to assist the driver. He was seen with a minor cut to his leg as he exited the water.
