Two people are behind bars in Baldwin County after driving a stolen car through the security gate on Ono Island and breaking into a home.
Michael Kendall, a 31-year-old from Lillian, Ala., was arrested early Sunday morning after police were called to a home where a burglary was in progress. A homeowner woke up to find Kendall in their home. The homeowner confronted Kendall and a fight ensued. The homeowner and Kendall were sent to the hospital for injuries sustained in the fight.
The Orange Beach Police Department was already on the island when the burglary occurred because Kendall drove a 2005 Saturn Ion right through the security gate and abandoned the car on Ono Boulevard, which is the main road on the Island. The Saturn Ion was reported stolen to Summerdale Police several days before the incident on Ono Island occurred.
The 31-year-old is currently still behind bars and is being held on no bond. Kendall faces several charges including 1st-degree burglary, receiving stolen property, criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, 2nd-degree assault and 3rd-degree criminal trespass.
However, Kendall was not the only person arrested in the incident. Brandy Stewart, a 35-year-old woman from Gulf Shores, was arrested in connection to the stolen Saturn Ion. Stewart is being held on an outstanding traffic warrant held by Orange Beach Police. A picture of Stewart has not been provided to the media since her arrest.
The case remains under investigation by the Orange Beach P.D. and additional charges may be forthcoming.
