BB Gun Bandits Hit Crichton Area

Four cases of windows being shot out by a BB gun were reported on Monday morning. It left some wondering if it was the weather, or someone carelessly throwing something out their window as they drove by. But it wasn’t–it was target practice.

“It’s sad that that goes on.”

On North Levert Drive two houses were targeted in the 200 block. Their passenger windows shot out. Then up Springhill Avenue a few miles, on Mill Street, a work truck was hit at wholesale distributor R.E. Michel Company. They were also hit last Thursday and had just replaced the window when it was hit again. You can see where they missed, hitting the side mirror and the front and side of the truck.

Also on Mill Street, roofing company GulfEagle Supply hasn’t replaced their window just yet. And it’s setting them back.

“When we have two and we’re down to one, it cuts our business significantly. We have to double up either on our labor or with the trucks we’re using which ends up causing us problems and we have to rework all of that with our customers,” says Jayson Shadburn with GulfEagle Supply.

Windows on smaller vehicles will cost around $200. But on this industrial truck, it could end up costing around $1,000. Shadburn says they’ll be locking their trucks up inside from now on.

“It’s sad that that goes on but it goes on, it’s things we have to take a look at now and a bit more preparation on our end to prevent it,” says Shadburn.

Last October, over 30 vehicles were hit by BB guns in Midtown Mobile. Those responsible could face charges of criminal mischief.
