JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A 55-year-old Jackson woman has been charged with murder after she allegedly burned her elderly, disabled father with boiling water.

Commander Tyree Jones with the Jackson Police Department said in a news release Diane Coleman poured boiling water on her father, 81-year-old Earl Coleman, “severely burning” him in multiple places on his body on Sept. 3.

Jones said investigators believe her motive was due to her father’s paralysis, including use of a wheelchair, and multiple medical issues.

She originally was arrested and charged with domestic violence aggravated assault.

Earl Coleman died on Sept. 12.

On Tuesday, Jones says investigators learned Earl Coleman’s death was been ruled a homicide. Diane Coleman was then charged with murder.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Diane Coleman.
