Water And Sewer Rates Could Increase In 2017

The Mobile Area Water and Sewer Systems has plans to increase rates beginning February 1st, 2017.

The service’s 2017 Operation and Maintenance Budget includes a 5 percent rate hike in water and sewer rates.

The average consumer would experience an increase of $2.60, while the minimum consumers’ bill would go $1.30.

The 2017 budget projects a total gross revenue of $105.4 million dollars for the year. MAWSS says the additional revenue will be put towards capital projects to help repair and replace Mobile’s aging infrastructure.

MAWSS is holding a public hearing on December 15th to discuss the 2017 budget and rate hikes. The water board will vote on the issue the following Monday, December 19th.
