The Mobile Area Water and Sewer Systems has plans to increase rates beginning February 1st, 2017.
The service’s 2017 Operation and Maintenance Budget includes a 5 percent rate hike in water and sewer rates.
The average consumer would experience an increase of $2.60, while the minimum consumers’ bill would go $1.30.
The 2017 budget projects a total gross revenue of $105.4 million dollars for the year. MAWSS says the additional revenue will be put towards capital projects to help repair and replace Mobile’s aging infrastructure.
MAWSS is holding a public hearing on December 15th to discuss the 2017 budget and rate hikes. The water board will vote on the issue the following Monday, December 19th.
