A fire tore through a converted warehouse in Oakland, California leaving at least nine people dead.
The blaze ignited Friday night during a party inside the building.
Officials say at least two dozen people are missing in the rubble of the building. The victims found it hard to escape because the stairway leading to the first floor was made of pallets.
The city had received reports of people living illegally in the building and opened an investigation in early November. The building was only permitted as a warehouse.
Crews will continue to search Sunday but will have to move slowly as they pull out debris in search of more victims. A crane and dumpster trucks are being brought in to help in the recovery.
