New Orleans, LA (AP & CBS)

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – New Orleans Police say 10 people have been shot, including one man who has died, following a shooting in the French Quarter.

Police said on Twitter Sunday morning that “10 victims were shot” in the incident that happened at the intersection of Iberville and Bourbon streets.

Police said in a statement that a victim identified as a male died at the hospital. No further information was immediately available.

NOPD Homicide detectives are investigating.

Officials say they’ve arrested at least two people on gun charges.

“So we’ve made a strong message this was not the place or the time to bring firearms to the French Quarter during the Bayou classic event or any event we made that very clear and we’re going to pursue this to the fullest extent of the law,” said NOPD’s Michael S. Harrison during an early morning news conference. “What we know right now is that ten victims were shot ranging in age from 20 to 37.  2 females, eight males, one of whom has expired.”
