For the past eight years, the Gulf Coast community has come together to support the WKRG Great Toy Drive. Last year we collected 26,000 toys. The toys go to forty-two agencies that have partnered with the Salvation Army during the holiday season. One of those agencies is the Child Advocacy Center. Pat Guyton is the Executive Director. He says, “The toys you are collecting help us to provide a real Christmas for these children. These brighten their lives. It’s something special for them, and it’s something to help us with their healing process of them.”
Major Susan Brown with the Salvation Army says this year, they have had a lot of working families apply for toys. “We had one family. Mom was working in a low-income job. Dad was working in construction so sometimes work was there, sometimes not. They had three children, so buying something extra is difficult.” Brown wants to reassure everyone that every gift is put to good use, and that no gift is too small!
If you are interested in donating toys for the Great Toy Drive, you can drop them off here at WKRG, at 555 Broadcast Drive, or any of our participating partners: Bugmaster, Baldwin EMC, Zaxbys, Wind Creek Casino and Hotel in Atmore, Air Specialty, or Mix 99.9.
