Prepping for the Feast: Cost of Thanksgiving Dinner is Down

Just like turkey and dressing is a holiday tradition, so is the American Farm Bureau’s annual estimation of the average price of a Thanksgiving feast.

Good news though for shoppers who dread checking out with a cart full of necessities to feed the entire family, AFBF’s latest price survey shows the average cost of a meal for 10 is down to $47.86 from $50.11 last year.

“We have seen farm prices for many foods – including turkeys – fall from the higher levels of recent years. This translates into lower retail prices for a number of items as we prepare for Thanksgiving and confirms that U.S. consumers benefit from an abundant, high-quality and affordable food supply,” according to AFB Director of Market Intelligence John Newton.
