ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (AP) – A coastal attraction is relocating after being kicked out of Alabama’s beachfront state park.
A zip line ride known as the Gulf Adventure Center is moving from Gulf State Park to a retail and residential development called The Wharf at Orange Beach.
Officials announced the agreement in a statement released Monday. The owner of the zip line attraction, Tom Schlinkert, says The Wharf provides an ideal location for his business.
The zip line operated at Gulf State Park for four years, paying more than $450,000 in revenue-sharing proceeds to the park system. But state officials refused to renew its lease as development moved forward of a new hotel and other amenities at the state park.
Operators plan to reopen the zip line at the new location in 2017.
