Plain Gardening: Bellingrath Gardens Fall Mum Show

Gardening expert Bill Finch says Bellingrath’s display of cascading chrysanthemums is the biggest anywhere!

This year’s warm fall has brought the mums out a little later than usual, so now that temperatures are cooling, they’re reaching their peak of beauty, and this will last for about three more weeks. The fall light makes it even more wonderful.

There are thousands of mums and hundreds of towers and cascades at Bellingrath this year, along with tens of thousands of butterflies – they love mums, too!

If you’re thinking about mums as fall color in your yard, Bill recommends getting plants where most of the buds are still tight, as opposed to the showier open blooms.

But if you really want to see what can be done with mums, Bellingrath is the place.
