A local non-profit group is rounding up 100 Thanksgiving turkeys to give to those who need them most.
Wednesday evening, Shaun Hartsfield, the founder, and president of HYPE Pensacola visited several Walmarts to get 100 Thanksgiving turkeys. The CW55 joined him at one of the locations to see what the process is like. Shaun and his son carefully looked through the turkeys to make sure they’re getting the right sizes.
The turkeys are being handed out on a need basis, and all 100 are already spoken for. Hartsfield says giving back to the community and helping families in need is even more important on holidays.
“This time of year is rough on a lot of people,” Hartsfield said. “Especially with Christmas right around the corner, so the expression we’ve been getting from people is that they’re very thankful for what we’ve been doing.”
They purchased about 30 turkeys when we were with them before heading to other places to look for more. When they aren’t handing out turkeys, HYPE Pensacola’s mission is to teach young adults grades 9-12 life lessons they don’t necessarily learn in school.
