Just a day after Veteran’s Day, a few local veterans got a big upgrade to their community. Eagles Landing gives veterans housing for up to two years.
Saturday several volunteers worked to remodel an outdoor community area with a garden and walking trails. The Home Depot, Volunteers of America, and San Francisco Giants pitcher Jake Peavy came together to get the job done. The McGill Toolen baseball team was also there to help. The team said meeting Jake was one of the highlights of the day.
“We’re just trying to make a positive impact in the community and let everybody know that McGill-Toolen is just out there trying to help,” said Brody Wiggins, McGill-Toolen Freshmen baseball player.
“Well, you know, I think it’s critical for these kids showing up to have a sense of community, have a sense of giving back,” said Jake Peavy, MLB Giants Pitcher. “If you’re going to be an athlete and have some of the platform that comes with that, you know, the responsibility of being a role model that you have and giving back.”
Eagles Landing homes 38 veterans. The outdoor area will provide a place to relax and socialize.
