MOBILE, AL (WKRG) — It’s not very often the city of Mobile gets to be the exclusive home of a movie premiere…
…let alone a movie premiere that is completely free to the public.
“USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage,” starring Nicolas Cage, Tom Sizemore and Thomas Jane, premieres at the Saenger Theater in Mobile on Saturday at 7:30pm. The free tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis beginning at 6:00pm at the theater.
You might recall, “Men of Courage” was filmed in Mobile and Baldwin counties last year with more than a thousand local extras. The USS Alabama at Battleship Memorial Park served as the USS Indianapolis, the famed cruiser that was tragically sunk by Japanese submarine in World War II.
The film’s biggest stars, such as Cage, will not be attending the premiere. Neither will the director, Mario Van Peebles, although News 5 is told several producers and supporting actors are expected to attend.
The film’s premiere was dampened down a bit when the movie was released on iTunes, Google Play, and other streaming services three weeks ago. It has since been panned by audiences and critics alike.
However, the film features Mobile in a big way, with several scenes filmed in some of the Port City’s most iconic streets and locales.
The water scenes, showing the sailors stranded at sea, were filmed off the coast of Baldwin County.
