Sheriff David Morgan has won re-election to his position in Escambia County.
The Republican candidate beat out a non-partisan candidate, Rex Blackburn, to clinch the win.
In August during the primary,Morgan won by about 15,000 votes against the other Republican candidates.
Morgan shared his feeling after the election was called.
“It’s a rehiring process, so you do the interviews by canvassing neighborhoods, doing candidate debates, then, of course, today after absentee ballots, early voting.. you get your final report card,” Morgan said. “If the citizens are happy with you, hopefully, the mandate that you walk away with is considerable enough to know that you’re on the right track, and I think that’s what we’re seeing tonight. We’re very very proud of that and it’s also very very humbling. We want to continue to do an outstanding job and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”
Morgan won the election with 73.08 percent of the votes in the county, to Blackburn’s 25.1 percent.
