Mobile, AL (WKRG)

He’s been a familiar face in Mobile and the entire state of Alabama. Senator Jeff Sessions is securing a spot in Donald Trump’s inner circle with a mention during Trump’s Presidential victory speech. The big question this morning is what’s next for Jeff Sessions? Is he going to be a cabinet secretary? That’s a possibility.

Sessions has been a longtime supporter of Donald Trump. That relationship started right here in Mobile Alabama Ladd-Peebles stadium in 2015. Sessions was probably the first sitting politician to be seen in public wearing a “Make American Great Again” hat. Remember 2015 when most pundits were writing Donald Trump off was one of the Republicans who would fizzle out early?
Sessions became a policy advisor after that and a Trump surrogate making the rounds on cable news and the Sunday political shows. Trump showed his appreciation for Sessions by thanking him during his victory speech.

“The first major Senator to endorse me, he’s a big man in Washington, he’s a smart man Senator Jeff Session,” said Trump. Sessions gave his wave and never wavered in his support for Trump. He was the first sitting US Senator to endorse Trump. That happened right before the big SEC Primary.

Again, what’s next for Sessions? The speculation is he is a prime candidate for Homeland Security. Trump won’t have to worry about giving up a Senate seat to the Democrats if he picks Sessions for the cabinet. With a Republican Governor and strongly Republican electorate, a replacement would likely be a member of the GOP.
