Today is the last opportunity you will have to visit the exhibits at the GulfQuest National Maritime Museum.
The museum’s closing was announced Friday after it failed to bring in enough revenue to cover the costs of operation.
After today, the facility will only be open for private parties and special events.
A consultant will be hired to look at ways to increase attendance and possibly reopen the museum in the future.
The museum opened last September after more than a decade of planning.
The facility cost $62 million dollars and the City of Mobile borrowed $28 million to fund the project.
An additional $20 million in federal funding went toward the bulkhead and docking facilities.
$11 million was raised privately and the project received $3 million in special federal tax credits.
