Scout gatherings can be a lot of work and a lot of fun. I followed a small group of scouts as they hopped out of the back of a minivan and ran back with as many loads of canned food as their arms could carry. It’s a civics lesson wrapped in a scout activity.
“It gives the boys an opportunity to help out in the community with cub scouts we’re dealing with younger kids and sometimes this is their first time helping out and it develops a sense in them that they are a part of a larger community,” said Pack 12 Cub Master Michele Griffin. The food goes to Feeding the Gulf Coast. This is also a big help to the food bank because this is the busiest time of year.
“We have just done a thanksgiving box distribution, so as our shelves get empty, the people in our service area are needing more food,” said Cathy Pope with Feeding the Gulf Coast.
