MOBILE, AL (WKRG) — The construction that has plagued Mobile with traffic congestion over the last couple of weeks has been completed ahead of schedule.
The road work at the intersection of Cottage Hill Road and Interstate-65 finished Wednesday afternoon. Road crews were seen removing traffic cones and construction equipment from the scene.
The construction, to replace the bridge deck on the overpass, was completed weeks ahead of schedule, much to the joy of local drivers.
The closure of Cottage Hill Road caused an extreme amount of traffic congestion on other well-traveled roadways, such as Airport Boulevard, Government Boulevard, and Azalea Road, among others. The backups were most prevalent during the morning and evening commutes, the lunch hour, and the weekend.
