New Construction Continues At Schools In Baldwin County

Schools officials break ground on two expansion projects in Baldwin County.

ROBERTSDALE, AL- The Baldwin County Board of Education’s 16 million dollar pay-as-you-go plan continues to move along nicely this fall.

Five schools are getting new wings or cafeteria expansions. The schools under Phase One of the pay as you go initiative are Fairhope High, Elberta Elementary, Elsanor Elementary, Perdido Elementary and Central Baldwin Middle School.

On Friday, school officials broke ground on two new wings at Central Baldwin Middle and at Elsanor Elementary. The two wings will add 24 additional classrooms and help alleviate overcrowding.

The school system doesn’t have enough money to build new schools, in fact, the last new campus was built seven years ago. Superintendent Eddie Tyler says the pay as you go plan is a cost-effective way to address overcrowding.

The pay as you go plan will eventually eliminate half of the school system’s 106 portables.
